At the age of four, her life took a sudden and dramatic turn. A serious heart condition emerged, leaving doctors scrambling for solutions and her family clinging to the promise of a miracle. Against all odds, that miracle came in 1992, when Hanna became a medical breakthrough in cardiac surgery at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta. The procedure not only saved her life but paved the way for more than 3,000 children to receive the same life-saving surgery.
Much of her skillset was forged in adversity. Due to a lack of oxygen consistently reaching her brain, doctors once said she would struggle to learn. She was even kept out of school at times, considered a high liability. But she defied those expectations. In high school, she took Advanced Placement classes, earned a full scholarship to college, and went on to lead an educational publishing company. Her leadership earned her a seat on the Board of Directors of a national Trade Association, and later, she was elected as its Chair in Washington, D.C.
Her journey began in South America, where her family faced an impossible choice: stay in a place with limited medical resources or risk everything to give Hanna a fighting chance. With only months left to live after surviving two heart attacks before the age of ten, her family made the bold decision to immigrate to the United States. They arrived with no knowledge of the language, the system, or the people—armed only with faith, determination, and the universal language of love. It was their unwavering belief in the possibility of a better future that carried them forward.
Decades later, Hanna’s story has come full circle. As a business transformation strategist, executive board director, and founder of nonprofit organizations, she has transformed her early experiences into a profound mission: to infuse the same hope and innovation that saved her life into the world of business and leadership development. During the industry’s major disruption in 2010 and the height of the Great Recession, while many peers and competitors were closing their doors, she equipped herself and her team with the tools to adapt.
